The Apotropiano by Lucy Wright

A piano covered in symbols borrowed from 16th century ritual grafitti—also known as ‘apotropaic marks – surrounded by a rainbow of life-sized pastel standing stones takes centrepiece.

Emphasising the need for collective reflection and care heightened by the COVID-19 crisis, and the important role which music can play in both drawing people closer to one another, and transporting them away from present circumstances.

SCULPTURE

Piano Cube

A cube balancing on its point made of six upright pianos. Like a dinosaur dancing a ballet or a strange wooden satellite from outer space it’s an enigma. Poised, posed, facing all directions, a simple shape with no simple explanation. Silent and impassive, impressive it embodies a strange consciousness urging us to see and think ‘outside the box’.
